7 days ago was the Live Earth concert. The aim of the Live Earth concert series was to bring awareness of global warming to the people around the world. Its really great that many people actually wanted to bring this idea across. In fact, I feel really guilty now blogging, wasting unnecessary electricity. As I was shopping at NTUC just now, I came to think about what actually is GO GREEN and whether people are actually carrying out what they should be doing. When my aunt was picking some apples from the shelving, I asked her why she did not bring along her shopping bag. She said that it was not wednesday and that the plastic bags for today are free of charge. My cousin replied that she do not do grocery shopping on wednesday because she finds it troublesome to bring her own grocery bag. If everyone think that way then what is the use of asking people to conserve. This made me ponder over the question whether is it possible to save the earth from dying. Firstly, why is the earth dying? I think its far more than the excessive and irresponsible gaseous and chemical discharge to the land, sea and air. How do we get these poisonous discharge? Is the multi-nationals in rural countries really to be blamed? Maybe. I do not know how much but they definitely contribute to it. But what solely is the reason behind all these? The more I think about it, the more I think everything could be the cause. Imagine if technology do not exist, all the vehicles, be it cars, motorcycles, lorries, planes, trains, boats, ships, or any other transportation will not be present and hence the air could be much cleaner and fresher and maybe dodos would not extinct in the first place. If bartering is still exist in this century, there would not be so many consumer products sitting on the shelves in all the shops, there would not be so much wastage. If economy was not important and not used as a gauge for wealth, there would be no cities and industrial sites, hence no longer any pollutions which will contribute to global warming. Any and every thing we are doing are contributing to global warming. They say one way to help save the earth is to take public transport instead of driving your own vehicles. True and I agree with it, but it doesn't mean that cities should come up with more public vehicles to encourage people to ride them. Instead of saving the earth, we are extracting more metal minerals, rubber from trees, using more electricity or coal ( which ever), wasting more water and others, discharging more exhaust fumes and unwanted waste into the environment. Hence we will still be contributing to global warming in both ways. Do you get what I mean?? NVM if you don't. I just feel really sinful whenever I go shopping in anywhere. Dun you think that some stuff actually sit in their little corner and will never catch your eye. We always wonder why people manufacture those unfanciful and useless products. We shouldn't blame the companies that produces them. The reason they manufacture them is plainly because they feel that these products are able to cater to the majority's likes. It is us that are to be blamed! We are the reason why there are so many different packaging, brands, flavours for a single item such as potato chips. If there wasn't a craving for something called potato, I do not think that people can come up with ideas such as french fries, potato chips, instant mash potatoes, which leads to other things such as corn chips, tapioca chips, whatever chips you can name. Can you imagine how much resources we are wasting when we are actually promoting such stuff. And the cocmpanies keep producing them to replenish the stocks, hence wasting more and more resources. I shan't elaborate which kind of resource because its simply too many. Do you get what i mean and feel now? Live Earth is all talk and no action. Okay maybe some action. At least they tried to bring the message across. But maybe in the wrong way I guess. Is there really a method to stop global warming? I really want to know! Up, up, and away! |
